Composite Fillings
A cavity occurs when an area of your tooth decays due to lack of proper oral hygiene. Without brushing and flossing your teeth, your smile becomes weak and cannot efficiently fight back against the sugars, bacteria, and other harmful possibilities that quickly lead to tooth decay and gum disease. With the help of our dental office in the 86409 area, Kingman Dental Group is able to provide patients with composite fillings that cover the decayed place of your tooth to protect it from further damage.
Composite fillings, which are popular due to the material being closely matched to the color of your teeth, provide strong durability for small to medium cavities. This procedure typically involves removing less of the decayed tooth than you would for another type of filling (amalgam or gold). Our composite fillings are also well suited for treating front or highly visible teeth because of their natural look.
Most patients don't know that fillings are used for more than just treating cavities!
When can a composite filling be used?
• A decayed tooth, most commonly known as a cavity
• Chipped or broken teeth
• Decreasing or eliminating a gap between your teeth
How Composite Fillings are Done
To properly apply the composite filling, Dr. Riche will numb the area that the filling is to be placed and remove the decayed portions of the tooth. A strong substance is applied to help open up the pores of your teeth to ensure an efficient bond, and then hardened and cured with a special light. Once this is complete, the filling is applied in thin layers to slowly form the complete filling. After the composite is hardened, the filling is smoothed and polished to be comfortable and properly fit your bite so there's no discomfort.
