Dental Inlays and Onlays
With this conversative approach to dental restorations, our dental inlays and onlays are used to repair your rear teeth that have mild to moderate tooth decay, or for cracked teeth where the damage doesn't warrant an entire dental crown. There are different materials used to create dental inlays and onlays, most popularly porcelain, composite resin, and even gold!
Dental inlays refer to the procedure where the bonded material is limited to the center area of the tooth, while dental onlays refer to to the bonded material that extends further to one or more cusps of your tooth. Don't hesitate to ask us more questions about their differences and which would be best for your smile.
What are the Benefits?
• Natural Look: Inlays and Onlays have a natural tooth color that makes them virtually invisible compared to amalgam/metal fillings.
• Great Fit: They won't expand or contract based on temperature, which is common in metal fillings.
• Longevity: This procedure can last up to thirty years, longer than any other type of filling available.
• Minimal Tooth Structure Removed: This procedure only requires minimal removal of a tooth's surface, helping to preserve the maximum amount of healthy tooth structure while restoring decayed or damaged areas.
How Dental Inlays and Onlays are Placed
Two visits are typically required for the placement of your inlays and onlays. During your first visit, Dr. Riche will take an impression of your tooth that'll be sent to our laboratory to make your custom permanent inlay or onlay. Before leaving, we'll provide you with a temporary inlay or onlay to protect your tooth in betwen visits. At your second visit, we'll remove your temporary placement and fit your permanent protective material.
